” For many, dealing with health authorities is a transactional relationship
and a necessary evil on the way to get treatments or
clinical trials approved with a service-provider mentality. The
idea of it being a collaboration anchored in common purpose—or
even a strategic partnership—is not something that is part of daily
jobs as a regulatory or market access person working in pharma,
MedTech, or as a clinical researcher in an academic medical center.
“However, the good news is that doctors and provider systems are
stepping up and are becoming more and more proactive (see the
breakout box below). Healthcare systems, hospitals, physicians, and
other HCPs influence healthcare policymaking through their expertise,
advocacy, and direct involvement in policy formulation. By
collaborating with government agencies, contributing data and evidence,
and lobbying for sustainable health care models, they ensure
that policies reflect the realities of care delivery while advancing
patient care, quality standards, and system-wide improvements.
Their role is crucial for creating healthcare policies that balance
the needs of patients, providers, and the broader health system.
